Replacement of Burst Discs and Holders

2025-07-19

1. Replacement of burst discs.

The replacement cycle of burst discs should be reasonably determined based on specific influencing factors such as equipment use conditions and medium properties. Generally, the replacement cycle of burst disc devices not connected to safety valves is 2 years. The replacement cycle of burst disc devices connected to safety valves is synchronized with the safety valve calibration. For burst discs used in corrosive, toxic media and harsh conditions, the replacement cycle can be shortened depending on the use situation.

The following situations must be replaced immediately:

(1) The installation direction of the burst disc device is incorrect, and the bursting pressure and bursting temperature on the nameplate do not meet the operating requirements;

(2) The outer surface of the burst disc is scratched and corroded, there is obvious deformation, foreign matter adheres, there is leakage, etc.;

(3) When the burst disc device is used in series with the safety valve, the burst disc device is broken or leaking, the safety valve is leaking or the safety valve is being calibrated;

(4) The equipment exceeds the minimum bursting pressure but does not explode during operation;

(5) The operating temperature of the equipment exceeds the allowable operating temperature range of the burst disc material during operation;

(6) The equipment is disassembled during maintenance;

(7) When the equipment is put into use again after a long period of shutdown (more than 6 months).

2. Replacement of the clamp.

When replacing a burst disc, the holder should be cleaned and inspected accordingly. If the following conditions exist, the holder should be handed over to the original manufacturer for repair or scrapping:

(1) The holder is deformed, cracked, or corroded over a large area;

(2) The sealing surface of the holder is damaged;

(3) The blade of the holder with a knife holder is damaged or blunt;

(4) There are other problems that affect the normal installation or normal operation of the burst disc;

3. Technical file management.

The technical file of a burst disc shall include the following:

(1) Product quality certification documents, installation and operating instructions of the burst disc device;

(2) Regular inspection records and reports of the burst disc device;

(3) Daily use of the burst disc device;

(4) Replacement records of the burst disc device or parts;

(5) Operation failure, accident and maintenance records of the burst disc device;
