Frequently Asked Questions about Bursting Discs for Dust Industry (1)

In industrial production, bursting discs for dust industry, as a key pressure relief device, has an important role in preventing equipment overpressure explosion. However, due to the flammability, adhesion, corrosion, and volatility of process pressure of dust in the dust environment, rupture discs face many problems in practical applications. If these problems are not solved in time, they may lead to safety protection failure and even cause production accidents. Therefore, we will use two articles to introduce you in detail the common problems that bursting discs for dust industry often encounters in production.

Bursting discs for dust industry

1. Performance failure of bursting discs for dust industry caused by dust attachment:

Industrial production in a dust environment is characterized by a large amount of suspended or deposited dust, which is very easy to attach to the surface of the rupture disc, forming a dense dust layer. This attachment will directly change the force state of bursting discs for dust industry. On the one hand, the weight of the dust layer causes the rupture disc to withstand additional loads for a long time, which may cause material fatigue and cause the rupture disc to break early when it is below the design pressure. On the other hand, the dust layer will hinder the normal deformation of the rupture disc during overpressure, so that the rupture disc cannot break according to the preset path, resulting in the inability to discharge the pressure at the right time. For combustible dust, there is also a potential risk in the attached dust layer. When combustion or explosion occurs inside the equipment, the high temperature may ignite the attached dust and form a secondary combustion. The flame or high-temperature air flow will directly burn the rupture disc, causing the strength to decrease, causing the rupture disc to be burned through when the discharge pressure is not reached, and the protective effect on the system is lost. In addition, the thermal insulation of the dust layer will make the temperature distribution of the rupture disc uneven, and microcracks will occur under the action of temperature difference stress, which will shorten the service life of bursting discs for dust industry.

2. Bursting discs for dust industry malfunction or failure caused by pressure fluctuations:

The process pressure of industrial production in a dust environment often fluctuates frequently. Fluctuations are a big test for the stability of bursting discs for dust industry. Because when the pressure is frequently in the range close to the design pressure of the rupture disc, the rupture disc will repeatedly withstand alternating loads, and the material gradually accumulates fatigue damage, which may suddenly break during normal production, causing unplanned downtime. For some high-sensitivity rupture discs, slight pressure fluctuations may cause reverse deformation or early blasting. More seriously, if there is an instantaneous overpressure peak in the pressure fluctuation, it may exceed the short-term tolerance limit of the rupture disc, causing the rupture disc to rupture early when the designed burst pressure is not reached. At the same time, if the pressure fluctuation is too large, the rupture disc may also undergo plastic deformation after multiple pressures, causing the actual burst pressure to deviate from the design value, and when the pressure is really needed to be released, it may cause the equipment to explode due to overpressure because it cannot be broken.
